This provides an overview of our School Policies.  The complete School Policies can be found in the Parent-Student handbook that is given to each student at the beginning if the year or in the School Office.

Arrival

Students arrive and are supervised in the former Church space for Gr K - 8, no earlier than 7:20 a.m. 

Students are considered tardy if not in attendance when the bell rings at 7:50 a.m.

Dismissal

Children riding buses will be dismissed at 2:05 p.m. by the right side door (gym doors)

Children walking and those who are riding will be dismissed through the left-side door (closest to the Church)

Absences

If a child is ill, please notify the school by calling the office by 8:30 a.m.

Academics

    Report cards are issued quarterly for grades one through eight, three times a year for Kindergarten, and twice a year for Pre-K.

    Students in grades 4-8 are awarded First Honors (94% and above) and Second Honors (88-93%). Students in K-3 receive Academic Achievement Awards.

    We also present Effort and Improvement Awards and Christian Character Awards to students who meet established criterion.

     Homework is assigned regularly. The approximate amount of time that should be spent on homework each day is as follows:

Grades 1 & 2    - 15 minutes

Grade 3             - 45 minutes

Grades 4 & 5    - 1 - 1 1/2 hours

Grades 6 - 8      - 1 1/2 - 2 hours

Christian Service

    Each grade at St. Barnabas School actively chooses and participates in at least one service project to benefit the local or global community. During Catholic Schools Week we have a “Day of Sharing” where everyone is involved in helping others in the community in some way.

Dress Code

Uniforms:

    Boys (Gr 1 - 8)

Shirts - white, yellow, light blue knit shirts or white turtlenecks, tucked in

Slacks - navy blue slacks or cords

Belts - black, brown or blue where applicable

Sweater - navy blue cardigan or pullover

Sweatshirt - navy blue with School logo

Shoes - flat heels, tie shoes, loafers or sneakers

Socks - white ankle socks

Shorts - navy shorts (May - October)

Full Dress Uniform - Assemblies and Liturgies:

    White, yellow or light blue dress shirts, navy dress pants with belt and navy ties, dress shoes.

    Girls (Gr 1 - 8)

Blouses - white, yellow or light blue blouse, knit polo shirts or white turtleneck, tucked in

Jumpers - (Gr 1 - 4) Navy/green plaid jumper

Skirt or Skort - (Gr 5 - 8)   Navy/green plaid, worn at knee length           

Slacks - navy blue twill, cords or wool (no leggings or knits); belts where applicable

Sweater - navy blue cardigan or pullover

Sweatshirt - navy blue or hoodie (only design or writing may be School logo)

Shoes - one inch flat heels, tie shoes, loafers or sneakers.  No clogs, slides and platforms

Socks - white ankle socks or tights

Shorts  - navy uniform walking shorts(May - October)

Full Dress Uniform - Assemblies and Liturgies:

    Plaid jumper or skirt and white, yellow or light blue blouse - Sneakers are not worn with full dress uniform

Kindergarten students do not wear uniforms

Out of Uniform days:

There are occasions when students are permitted to be out of uniform:

The child's birthday

Some half-days and other days during the year (as annnounced)

Students may wear:   casual tops (no tank tops or muscle shirts), slacks, shirts or dresses, bermuda shorts or to-the-knee shorts and jean shorts unless otherwise notified

School Closing Information

    We will be closed for inclement weather whenever Cheektowaga Central, Maryvale, or Lancaster schools are closed. WIVB (TV) and WGR (AM Radio) will be notified any time St. Barnabas School closes for weather or other emergencies and will announce that our school is closed.

Procedure for School Physicals 

    Education law requires medical examinations for students new to our school and for those entering kindergarten, grade 1, 3, and 7. These physical examinations are done in school by the district school physician, unless parents choose, at their expense, to have the physical examination done by their family physician.
