Grades 4 and 5

 

bullet Students are introduced to a semi-departmentalized day.

 

bulletReligion is taught daily as a subject and Christian values and principles are modeled daily in our interactions with each other.  We attend Mass as a school on a weekly basis and take part in various prayer services throughout the year.

 

bulletWe have a cooperative learning environment where students switch classes for Social Studies, Religion, Math, and Science.

    

    Students in grades 4 and 5 work together in many subject areas.   In Social Studies, 4th grade students study New York State history and 5th grade students study the Western Hemisphere.  We take many field trips together that incorporate these studies.  

    In Science, students study matter, energy, and the plant and animal kingdoms.  Students also participate in hands-on lab experiments and create displays for our Science Expo.

    In Reading, we group students in ability level reading groups.   We have also added literature circles into our groups.
